One of my favorite lines is, “Meditation: It’s Not What You Think”
It is hard to explain this concept because concept itself is rooted in thought. When we get on the mat in a yoga class regardless of the brand there is the opportunity to trade thought for feeling. You may imagine that your mind-body instrument has a finite bandwidth and the degree to which we indulge thought is the degree to which we sacrifice feeling. Similarly, when we consciously engage our feeling instrument the attention we pay thought is minimized.
I would encourage you to go deeply into the feeling state to discover the zero stress state that lies waiting to be discovered beneath the thinking process. By contrast to the line above, stress is a direct result of thought so in order to let go of stress or begin to thin it out we place a higher priority on feeling than thinking. This process of trading thinking for feeling invariably reduces stress and can bring immediate relief.
I wish you all a practice that is rich with feeling and thin on thinking, notice I didn’t say fat with feeling although it sounds good, maybe we should be hip and say phat on feeling and thin on thinking. Zero stress may seem like a lofty goal but start to thin it out by trading thinking for feeling and before you know it you will feel IT.
