“People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them.” ~ George Bernard Shaw
How can I make the best of my circumstances?
I was remembering an awesome conference my company sponsored with Balanced Woman Magazine a few years ago in South Florida. I loved the vision of the event and often wish we had more events that inspired business owners to look at the concept of a work-life balance. What does work-life balance mean to you? To me it includes health, spirituality, family, friends and fun. I have always loved my work so much that it never really felt like I was working. My old way of thinking was that I didn't have time to do everything I wanted with my physical health. I thought, like many do, that walking from the far end of the parking lot and upstairs was exercise. Then, I lost my health which caused me to lose so much more than I ever imagined.
When I was running my company, the people I worked with and even my friends and family thought that I was so successful, that I must be living the life of my dreams. Much of that was true, and even now, I DO feel like I have always been living the life of my dreams. We all describe success differently though. I was doing wonderful things as a community developer for the natural health industry. I know a great deal about living a healthy lifestyle and I had all of the resources anyone could ever want at my fingertips so that I could be at my peak potential, however I wasn’t walking my talk when it came to my own personal health. I was such a workaholic, that I didn’t take the time daily to really take care of myself physically. Eventually with the help of one of the world's leading health experts Dr. Gary Null, I had the great opportunity to step away from my life for an entire month and really learned how to put myself first so that I could really help others.
I know that there is a philosophy going around among many spiritual healers and teachers today that says, “If you think good thoughts, you can eat and do (or not do) anything you want!”… as they stuff a big mac and fries down their gullets. I personally think that this philosophy is a bunch of crap! Let’s see how you are in 10-20-30 years. Every choice we make affects us. The decisions we make today probably won’t create immediate health challenges in most people, but over time they are debilitating to our systems. If you smoke a cigarette today you probably won’t die tomorrow of lung cancer, but over time??? If I eat unhealthy dessert every day, I most likely will not be diagnosed with diabetes tomorrow, but it is likely that my body will be negatively affected by that decision in the future. The fact is, with all the transitions happening in the world right now, we really should be extra diligent with our own personal physical and spiritual care. Many of today’s light workers and teachers are confirming that it is vital to cleanse ourselves internally and focus on our personal health to not only survive but thrive during “THE SHIFT” our planet is going through.
I feel this is our job and priority EVERYDAY... from what we think, and eat to how much we move our bodies and get our heart rates up. Dr. Gary Null once said to me when I was leading his health support group here in Florida was, the quickest and most effective way for people to drop pounds and get healthy is to powerwalk 3+ miles every day. Check out his video on how to do powerwalking properly. I have seen the successes over and over again.
Today, I am having new challenges with my balancing act of being married. I went from walking and doing yoga almost every day to not moving nearly as much. I used to workout at Downtown Yoga at least 3 days a week and walking over 10-15 miles a week. My husband and I do spend time walking together, and I love when we do, however the transition into married life has meant, up till now, doing a lot less of these things that really make my body and soul smile. Now, I want to bring back into balance some of these physical things that I love doing. How have you dealt with transitions like this where you come together with someone who has different goals, motivations and ways of being that may not be supportive or complimentary to your own? Please share so that we can learn from each other…
My body and soul is reminding me now to do what I need to do…. NO excuses. I am really excited that at the end of the month, I am going to spend 8-10 days with Dr. Gary null at his Paradise Garden’s Retreat. Every time I step foot on his property, I plug back into that energy and the memories of the month I got to live there that changed my life forever.
Here is what I am doing to change my circumstances right now.....
Scheduling walking dates with friends weekly
Loving myself through all my transitions
Swimming in the ocean 2-3 times a week
Getting back to my yoga community :)
Getting my butt back to the gym at least 2 times a week!
NO MORE EXCUSES!!! If you want to join me on any of these adventures or have other ideas, please share and let me know! Better yet....let's schedule time to workout together. The more the merrier!! Schedule time this week for you...put yourself first. Then come together with people you love and build a healthy community by working out or exercising together!!
